What in the world is happening?

Well today is Black Friday here in the United States. Black Friday is and has been something I have never understood, I do work in retail so I understand in the traditional sense of company's offering deals that are seemingly too good to pass up in hopes of having a huge sales day and ending the year with a positive sales figure. But aside from that, what makes people want to camp over night in a Best Buy parking lot? I will admit that I am probably not the type of person these company's are catering to. I prefer to find what I want and then purchase the item when I'm in the neighborhood. Why would I want to get up and go shopping at 2am (not that I haven't, but I'm a bit of an odd ball), I prefer to be getting ready for bed at 2am. This is my solution to the whole Black Friday crazy people thing, and I believe that if people are smart companies will start to adopt this particular piece of brilliance.

Why doesn't a particular store, lets say Wal-mart, start having a week long "Black Friday", where basically the store would offer the same items that they would normally offer on the day after Thanksgiving but for a whole week? Doesn't that make sense to have a huge week long sale where you and I can go in the store throughout the course of a week and get our "Black Friday" shopping done while we buy our food for the week? And Wal-mart would make a killing, all they would have to do is get full truck loads of their Christmas sales items instead of the one pallet of laptops that everyone wants, have an entire truck load of pallets with laptops. Seriously, how many people go to Wal-mart at least once a week? So instead of having 45 people fight over 30 laptops, there would be 45 people fighting over 30 different items. Plus you could do this the week before Thanksgiving so you can make all these purchases while you're get your stuff to make your Green Bean casserole. Are companies so limited by the "Wizards of smart" that they could not have come up with this idea on their own? Oh,what that would be too easy.
